Emmanuel Segui's blog article is reprinted here.

Encouraging Self Esteem in Girls
Emmanuel Segui

Children, adolescents, and teenagers generally experience some sort of self esteem issues during one part of the advancement to adulthood. This problem seems to be magnified in girls rather than boys.

There are many possible reasons why this seems to be the case, including developmental hormones, different social relationships in girls, and certain other gender differences that
add to the problem. If you are a parent of a young girl, you may want to consider her quality of self esteem and work towards reinforcing or boosting your child’s self esteem early on in her
development.

There are many resources available to you when looking in to boosting your child's self esteem. Access the World Wide Web and search different websites that contain information about the
development of young girls and how possessing low self esteem can potentially be detrimental to their development. Also, you will be able to contact different parents or guardians in the same
situations as yourself.

Consider trading tips or stories with these other virtual friends who share your same goal concerning their own female child. Also, your local library is an excellent resource for information on this topic. Check out the sections devoted to parenting, development, and the social situations with girls to gain a better understanding of this problem and how not providing a potential solution can be extremely negative to your child. Furthermore, your local bookstore has a phenomenal selection of books that are sure to answer all your questions about the impact of your daughter's self esteem.

If necessary, you may want to join a discussion or support group regarding in order to speak with other parents about how they are tackling this issue. To find a group that is suitable to your specific needs, you may want to contact your local Department of Parks and Recreation.

'Do You Spend Your Life Floating On de Nile River?' - Jan Tincher's Blog Article - May 2, 2007

Do You Spend Your Life Floating On de Nile River?

~ By Jan Tincher

Do you spend your life floating on *denial* river?

Do you deny you can do things? Do you THINK things are tough, so you don't do them?

*I can't do that.* *I can't use the computer.* *I can't take on that project.*

You feel you are too busy, so you deny yourself the opportunity to learn to live a full life.

It's your thoughts that keep you where you are -- or take you where you want to go. Check out ALL negative thoughts and see if they really apply to the situation. If you don't, you could end up like the man in the mountains who went to find a guru.

He climbed up the mountain, found the guru and said, "Guru, my mother-in-law has just moved in with us. We live in a one room hut. What am I to do? I hate my mother-in-law."

The guru says, "Do you have a goat?"

The man says, "Yes, I have a goat."

"Move the goat into the hut with you. Come back and see me in a week."

The man leaves, does the guru's bidding, and comes back in a week.

"Guru, things did not get better. They got worse. I not only have my mother-in-law in the hut with us, but now we have a goat. I really hate my mother-in-law."

The guru responds, "Do you have chickens?"

"Yes, I have chickens."

"Move the chickens into the hut with you. Come back and see me in a week."

The beleaguered man leaves to do the Guru's bidding. He comes back in a week.

"Guru, I cannot stand it. Things are definitely worse. I now not only have my mother-in-law, whom I hate, in the hut with us, but now we have a goat AND chickens. I really, really hate my mother-in-law."

The guru says, "Do you have a pig?"

The man sighed. "Yes, I have a pig."

"Move the pig into the hut with you. Come back and see me in a week."

The befuddled man leaves to do the Guru's bidding. He comes back in a week.

"Guru, I cannot stand it. Things have gotten much worse. I now not only have my mother-in-law, whom I truly hate, in the hut with us, but now we have a goat AND chickens AND a pig. I really, truly hate my mother-in-law."

The guru says, "Do you have kittens?"

The man's eyes dart around miserably. "Yes," he answers. "I have kittens."

"Put the kittens in the hut with you. Come see me in a week."

The poor, dejected man leaves. He comes back in a week.

"Guru, please. It has gotten worse and worse. I now not only have my mother-in-law, whom I cannot tell you how much I hate, in the hut with us, but now we have a goat AND chickens AND a pig AND kittens. I really, truly hate my mother-in-law. I am serious."

The guru says, "Do you have a dog?"

The man's eyes went up to the sky. When he found no divine help there, he sighed. "Yes, I have a dog." His shoulders shuddered at what, by now, he knew the guru would say.

"Put the dog in the hut with you. Come back in a week."

The poor, dejected man leaves. He comes back in a week.

"Guru, I cannot take it anymore. I have not only my mother-in-law in the hut with us, but now we have a goat AND chickens AND a pig AND kittens AND a dog." He shook his head. A tear trickled down both his cheek, because he knew the guru was going to say something dreadful.

The guru smiled. "Now, take out all the animals. Come and see me in a week."

The bewildered man blinked in confusion as he left. He came back in a week.

His step was spry, his smile wide. "Hello, Guru," he called before he even got to the top of the mountain. "It's a beautiful day."

The guru asked, "And how is your mother-in-law, my son?"

"Oh, you mean that fine lady living with us? Truthfully, she is not so bad."

The guru said, "You have learned much, my son."

Sometimes, we need to KNOW we don't have it so bad, before we can travel the road to success.

'A Special Kind of Courage' - Brian Tracy's Blog Article - May 2, 2007

Brian Tracy's blog article is reprinted here.

A Special Kind of Courage
Brian Tracy

There are several different aspects of courage. Perhaps the most important is the courage to endure, to persist, to "hang in there" in the face of doubt, uncertainty and criticism from others.

There are several different aspects of courage. Perhaps the most important is the courage to endure, to persist, to "hang in there" in the face of doubt, uncertainty and criticism from others.

Practice Patience in Adversity
This is called "courageous patience," the willingness and the ability to "stay the course" in the face of uncertainty, doubt and often criticism from many quarters.

Stay the Course
In my experience, there is a critical time period between the launching of a new venture and the results that come from that venture. During this hiatus, this waiting period, many people lose their nerve. They cannot stand the suspense of not knowing, of possible failure. They break and run in battle, they quake and quit in business.

The True Leader
But the true leader is the person who can stand firm, who refuses to consider the possibility of failure. The turning points of many key moments in human history have been the resolution, or lack thereof, of one person. Courageous patience is the acid test of leadership.

To encourage others, to instill confidence in them, to help them to perform at their best requires first of all that you lead by example.

Allow Honest Mistakes
The second thing you can do to help alleviate the fears of failure and rejection in others is to encourage them to take calculated risks and allow honest mistakes.

Build People Up
Give the people who look up to you regular praise and approval. Celebrate good tries as well as success, large and small. Create a psychological climate where people feel safe from censure, blame or criticism of any kind. Then do things that make people feel terrific about themselves.

Become Unstoppable
Courage comes from acting courageously on a day-to-day basis. Your personal development goal should be to practice the behaviors of a totally fearless person until you become, in your own mind, unstoppable.

Action Exercises
Here are two ways for you to develop courageous patience.

First, prepare yourself in advance for the inevitable disappointments and setbacks you will experience on the way to your goal. Don't be surprised when they occur.

Second, resolve in advance that you will bounce rather than break and continually encourage others to think and act the same way.
